    PV Basketball

I didn't make it to the game last night, but from what I hear sounds like Coach Moore better teach his team how to shoot from the outside or its gonna be a long rest of the season for the Vikes. Sounds like if anyone was watching, that all you have to do is play a zone and give the Vikes all the outside shots they want, because they cant hit anything. Any truth to that?

Thats been the story at PV for at least 10 years. I cannot remember them having anyone in the recent past that can make an outside shot consistently. Its gonna take more than shooting during basketball season to make a good shooter. Mumpower was their best outside shooter last season, he was decent, so I would look for PV to work on that in the future, they do have some kids in the system who can make some outside shots, but shooting is not something that just happens.

    Re: PV Basketball

i went to the game last night, props to appy and their defense on our Vikes last night, forcing us to shoot from the outside all night as it got desperate...

as far as the outside shooters at PV right now, Delmas and Myron can hit them pretty consistenly, with John Michael being an asset on the outside wing as well

i look for PV to do nothing but improve in the future under the new coaching staff....they seem pretty well disciplined from what i seen last night

By the way, I meant no disrespect to any of the players. I just meant to say, it looks like other teams have found out how to beat PV. Sounds like they have some work to do from the outside.

From the 3point line against us, Delmas was 1-6 and Myron was 2-11. I dont think John Michael scored. Had a bunch of open looks, shots just werent falling for them.

    Re: PV Basketball

Folks high school coaches don't teach kids how to shoot! Kids are (or they had better be) taught the fundamentals as kids. It is up to them to go out and play basketball. If you think a kid can walk in to a gym as a 14-17yr old and expect to pick up basketball and be good, he better be 7ft tall and one heck of an athlete.
It cracks me up to see comments like that. Being an athlete doesn't just transmute into being a player.
I can tell you about one kid i know! He was not very good as a freshman and got cut. He worked his butt off to get good, going as far as taking a basketball everywhere he went, he worked his butt off. No coach did that he did. He became the all-time 3 point shot leader in the state.
The kids have to want it. You could bring John Wooden in as coach and it won't make much difference if the kids don't play basketball in the off season or even shoot any.

Well said. A coach can coach all he wants and coach good, but he can't go out on the floor and play for the kids. They have to want it and be willing to give it their all to be better.
